Sony Z1 Compact screen
Tools required for disassembly: Phillips screwdriver,
Mobile phone opening tool,
Suction cup, hot air gun or hair dryer.
(If you are replacing a badly cracked screen, cover it in sticky tape
before starting). First turn your phone off and remove your sim card.

Next, apply heat from a hot air gun or hair dryer to the back of the phone. This
will soften the adhesive tape holding the back cover in place. Now run a plastic
tool around the join of the back cover and it will start to release.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 2]()
If you have a suction cup, attach this to the back of the phone and pull
it towards you and the back cover will come away.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 3]()
Move the suction cup to different areas to completely release the back
cover.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 4]()
The back cover is now free. Now remove the five circled screws. Note
that the screw circled in blue is a different length to the others, so make sure
it goes back in the correct place when you reassemble.

disconnected.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 7]()
Now remove the battery by levering from the point indicated below.

as indicated by the arrow below.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 10]()
The vibrating motor has now been disconnected from the circuit board.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 11]()

The circuit board is held in place by a number of plastic clips around
its edge, such as those indicated below. Lever the clips back and lift the
circuit board free.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 24]()
The circuit board is now free. If you want to remove/replace the rear
camera and front facing camera, disconnect the cables indicated below. Again,
these cables have a plug and socket like connection, so lever each up, away from
the circuit board.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 25]()
The rear camera and front facing camera are now free.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 26]()
Take note of circled ribbon cables. When the circuit board was removed
these cables were disconnected. Make sure these click into place during
reassembly.

To remove the screen and frame, first apply heat around the edges of
the front of the phone to soften the adhesive holding the screen and frame in
place, then run a plastic tool around the join to lever the screen free. Go all
the way around the edge of the phone until the screen comes out.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 31]()
The screen and frame have now been separated from the chassis.
![Sony Z1 Compact disassembly stage 32]()
