Tools required for disassembly: Torx 4 screwdriver,
Phillips screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar
plectrum or credit card.
Remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card. There are a
number of screws in the back of the phone but you do not need to remove
these in order to change the touch screen and LCD screen so ignore them
for now.

Open the slide and you'll see two circular stickers, circled below,
which cover two screws. Lift the stickers off with your screwdriver or
something sharp and then remove the screws. Now carefully lift the front
cover away from the phone. Note that it is still attached by a ribbon so
be careful not to damage this.

Below you can see the front cover moved to one side. A ribbon from
the touch screen is still connected to the phone. Move on to the next
stage to see how this is disconnected.

Below is a close up of the ribbon connecting the front cover and
touch screen to the rest of the phone. The connector for this ribbon
attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever it up to unplug. On the
right of the phone you can see the earpiece. If you wish to remove this
it simply pops out with a little leverage.

Your phone should now look like below.

Next lift the LCD screen towards you and you'll see another ribbon
cable. Again, the connector for this ribbon attaches like a plug and
socket. Just lever it up to unplug and you can remove the LCD screen.

With the LCD screen removed your phone should look like below. If
you only want to replace the LCD screen, you don't need to follow the
guide any further. Reverse the whole procedure for reassembly. If you've found this disassembly guide useful, please support formymobile.co.uk and order the tools and parts you need from our site. We ship worldwide!

To continue with disassembly of your N97, remove the screws in the back
of the phone then run something like the edge of a credit card around
the join of the battery compartment in order to free it.

You should now be able to open your phone like a book, as shown below.
Two ribbons, circled below, hold the two halves of the phone together.
Again, each connector attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever each
one up, away from the circuit board, to unplug them.

Your phone should now look like below.

Now open the slide part of the phone, as below. To remove the ribbon
cable, carefully peel it away from the grey, metal part of the phone.

With the ribbon cable removed your phone should look like below. If you
want to remove the keypad and keypad membrane/board then, using
something with a small, sharp point, lift the keypad from the point
shown below. Once you have lifted the keypad up a little you should be
able to carefully peel it away from the phone. It's held in place with
double sided tape which you'll probably need to replace.

With the keypad removed your phone should look like below.

If you want to remove the keypad membrane/board then first you need to
disconnect the hinge for the sliding part. Remove the screw circled
below, as well as the screw at the opposite end of the phone.

You should now be able to lift the sliding part up enough to reveal two
more screws. Remove these then move the sliding part around until it
comes loose.

Your phone should now look like below.

To remove the keypad membrane first pry open the part at one side so you
can access the volume and camera buttons which are stuck to the side of
this part. Unstick them.

You can now peel the keypad membrane/board away, as shown below. Use
double sided tape to hold the new part in place.

Now go back to the other half of the phone. Disconnect the two circled
ribbons. Again, the connector for each ribbon attaches like a plug and
socket. Just lever each one up to unplug. To free the circuit board pull
the housing in the direction shown by the arrows. Then lift the circuit
board away from the housing.

Below you can see the circuit board removed and the camera and power
button/charger socket removed.

The loudspeaker at the top of the phone, can be levered out of the
housing. The antenna at the bottom of the phone can also be levered of
the housing. Disassembly is now complete. Reverse the whole procedure
for reassembly. If you've found this disassembly guide useful, please support formymobile.co.uk and order the tools and parts you need from our site. We ship worldwide!
