Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly, screen replacement and repair

Tools required for disassembly: Phillips screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.

First remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 1 Next, slide something thin and flat under the plastic part at the top of the phone, in order to remove it. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 2 Now remove the two screws you have access to, circled below. You can now lift the black plastic cover away from the phone. It just slides off. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 3 Your phone should now look like below. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 4 You can now remove the case by pushing it in the direction shown by the arrows. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 5 With the case removed, your phone should look like below. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 6 Now turn the phone over and removed the four screws you can see, circled below. Then push the bottom plastic cover in the direction shown by the arrows.  Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 7 Below you can see the bottom plastic cover once it has been removed. Next, lift the keypad up from the point shown by the arrow. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 8 You should now have the keypad removed. Now remove the two screws you have access to, circled below. Then pull the antenna in the direction shown by the arrows. A little force is required. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 9 With the antenna removed, your phone should look like below. To remove the battery compartment, push the clips indicated by the arrows, back. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 10 You should now be able to pull the battery compartment away from the rest of the phone, as shown below. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 11 With the battery compartment removed, your phone should look like below. The flash for the camera, circled below, is held in place lightly with double sided tape. Lift this up, being careful not to damage the ribbon cable which connects it to the circuit board. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 12 Now pull the speaker and sim card module towards you. A ribbon connector, indicated by the arrow below, needs to be disconnected. This attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever it up to unplug. You can now remove the module from the rest of the phone. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 13 With the speaker and sim card module removed, your phone should look like below. Two more ribbon connectors, circled below, need to be disconnected. Again, each attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever them up to unplug. The micro switches for the phone lock and camera buttons, indicated by the arrows, need to be demounted from the side of the phone. They're held in place with double sided tape and need to be peeled away carefully, making sure you don't damage the ribbon cables connecting them to the circuit board. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 14 Below you can see the disconnected ribbons and micro switches. Now remove the three screws you can see, circled below. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 15 Now lift the circuit board from left to right, noting that is is still connected by two ribbon cables, circled. Again, each attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever them away from the circuit board to unplug. The circuit board will now be free. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 16 With the circuit board removed, your phone should look like below. To remove the screen you first need to heat it with a hot air gun or hair dryer. This will loosen the double sided tape that holds it in place. Do this for 60-120 seconds and you'll then be able to pull it free. Samsung Wave S8500 disassembly stage 17 With the screen removed your phone should look like below. Disassembly is now complete.
