Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly, screen replacement and repair

Tools required for disassembly: Torx 5 screwdriver, Mobile phone opening tool

(If you are replacing a badly cracked touch screen digitizer (the glass), cover it in sticky tape before starting). First remove the back cover by pushing it in the direction indicated by the arrows below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 1 With the back cover removed, your phone will look like below. Now remove the eight torx 5 size screws, circled below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 2 Now push a plastic mobile phone opening tool or old credit card along the join of the housing, on the same side as the sim card tray as shown below, and the battery cover will come free. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 3 The battery cover has now been removed, as shown below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 4 Turn the battery cover over and if you wish to remove the vibrating motor, indicated by the grey arrow, or the loud speaker, indicated by the red arrow, carefully lever them free with your screwdriver (they're held down with double sided sticky tape). Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 5 The vibrating motor and loudspeaker are now free. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 6 Now disconnect the ribbon cable circled below. This has a plug and socket type connection, so lever it up, away from the circuit board. You can then remove the battery by levering it up from the point indicated by the arrow. Next, disconnect the ribbon cable circled below, Again, this has a plug and socket type connection, so lever up, away from the circuit board. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 8 The ribbon cable has now been disconnected. At this stage you can remove the touch screen. To do so, first apply heat to the front of the screen using a hot air gun or hair dryer. This will soften the adhesive holding the touch screen in place. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 9 After applying heat to the front of the screen, run your plastic tool inside the very edge of the screen. Go all the way around the screen until it is completely free. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 10 The touch screen is now free. If you only want to replace the touch screen digitizer, you don't need to follow the guide any further, simply connect your new screen and reverse the whole procedure for reassembly. The coaxial cable, circled in blue, is slightly different to the others but connects in the same plug-socket manner. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 12 Now remove the two circled screws and you'll be able to lift the circuit board away from the rest of the phone. Lift the circuit board up slightly then pull in the direction shown by the arrow below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 13 The top circuit board has now been removed. Disconnect the other end of the coaxial cable, circled below, then remove the lower circuit board by lifting it from the points indicated by the arrows below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 14 The lower circuit board has now been removed. If you want to remove the earpiece, carefully lever it free. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 15 The earpiece is now free. Next, carefully peel the orange ribbon cable away from the phone. It's held down with double sided sticky tape. Take particular care along the side of the phone where the cable is very thin. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 16 The orange ribbon cable is now free. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 17 To remove the LCD screen, first peel back the black ribbon cable, indicated by the arrow below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 18 Now carefully remove the coaxial cable, indicated by the arrow below. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 19 The coaxial cable is now free. The LCD screen should now be loose and can be lifted free from the other side, carefully sliding the ribbon cable through the housing as you do so. Nokia Lumia 625 disassembly stage 20 The LCD screen (display) is now free. Disassembly is now complete. Reverse the whole procedure for reassembly.
