Disassembly guides » LG KC780 Reina disassembly

If you require a new screen, phone cover and screwdrivers, they can be purchased here: http://www.formymobile.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=kc780lcd

Tools required: Phillips screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.
  • Remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card. Four screws need to be removed (circled below).

  • Run something like a credit card around the join of the battery compartment to release it from the rest of the phone.

LG KC780 Reina disassembly stage 2

  • With the battery compartment removed your phone should look like below. Circled in the picture below is the ringer. This is attached to the circuit board by two quite delicate wires. You need to carefully lever this off the phone. It's stuck down with double sided tape and will come away quite easily but be careful not to break the wires. Once the ringer is loose, lift the circuit board from the point indicated by the arrow. A little force is required.

  • Pull the circuit board away from the main body of the phone. You'll see that it's still attached by a black ribbon. The connector from this ribbon attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever it away from the circuit board to unplug. Note that when you lifted the circuit board up in the previous stage another ribbon and connector were disconnected and the ribbon is circled below. Make sure you reconnect this when you put the phone back together.

  • You can now lift the circuit board away from the phone, as shown below.

  • Now open the slide and you'll have access to two screws, circled near the bottom of the picture below. There are also two screws near the top of the phone that need to be removed (two stickers covers these screws). Now hold the front cover tight and push the black part down, as indicated by the arrow. Some force is required. This will make a gap of about 1mm at the top of the phone and releases the clips that hold the slide in place. Pull the slide down and it'll come loose. Slide the black ribbon through the gap in the slide.

  • The slide is now separated from the front of the phone. A ribbon connector (circled left) needs to be disconnected. It attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever this up to unplug. Another connector (circled right) needs to be released. For now, all you need to do is remove the blue tape and flick the black latch up then peel back the metallic gold sticker.

  • Pull the green circuit board down and away from the phone, as shown below.

LG KC780 Reina disassembly stage 8

  • Lift the black rubber part away from the top of the phone, as shown below. Now starting from where the arrow indicates in the picture below, carefully peel the orange ribbon from the back of the LCD screen. Once you've removed the ribbon you can lever the screen out. There is a recess in the cover (circled) to allow this.

  • You now have the LCD screen removed. Reverse the whole procedure for reassembly. Please read the note below.

LG KC780 Reina disassembly stage 10

  • Note: When I took my phone apart a small piece of metal fell out (circled below, right). This is a magnet and without it the phone will not know whether the slide is open or closed. If this part falls out make sure it goes back in place. I used some double sided tape to hold it in.
