BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly, screen replacement and repair

Tools required for disassembly: Torx 6 screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.

Remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card. Two screws need to be removed, circled below. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 1 Next pry the bezel at the bottom of the phone off (pull down from the top edge) to reveal two more screws. Remove these screws. Then pry the front cover away from the point shown by the arrow. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 2 With the front cover removed your phone should look like below. The keyboard will now be loose and can be removed. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 3 Now carefully lift the lens from the point shown. Do the same from the other side. The lens is held in place with double sided tape which will release with a little more ease if you first heat the area with a hair dryer. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 4 You should now have the lens released, as shown below. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 5 Now remove the two screws you can see, circled below. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 6 You can now lift the main body of the phone away from the housing, as shown below. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 7 A ribbon connector (circled) needs to be disconnected. It attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever this up to unplug. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 8 You can now lift the screen and assembly away from the circuit board, as shown below. BlackBerry Curve 8520 disassembly stage 9 If you need to remove the LCD screen from its frame, use a hair dryer to heat the frame and loosen the adhesive holding the screen in place. You should also slide something with a thin flat edge, like a credit card, around the edge of the LCD screen and the screen will release. You should now have the LCD screen removed.
