Tools required for disassembly: Phillips screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.

  • Remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card. Six screws need to be removed, circled below.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 1

  • Run something like a credit card around the join of the battery compartment to release it from the rest of the phone.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 2

  • With the battery compartment removed your phone should look like below. Three ribbon connectors (circled) need to be disconnected. Each attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever each one up to unplug. Next, lever up the camera, indicated by the arrow. It's connected to the circuit board by a ribbon but it's held in position but double sided tape. You just need to release the double sided tape. Do not disconnect it from the circuit board.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 3

  • You should now be able to move the circuit board to release another ribbon and connector. Again, this attaches like a plug and socket. Just lever the connector away from the circuit board to unplug.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 4

  • The circuit board will now be loose, as shown below.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 5

  • Open the slide and you'll be able to see four more screws, circled below. Remove these screws.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 6

  • There is a cover at the top of the phone. It's held in place with double sided tape and you should be able to pry this away from the phone, as shown below.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 7

  • You now have access to two more screws. Remove these.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 8

  • The slide part will now be free, as shown below. Now remove the blue tape, indicated by the arrows below

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 9

  • Two more ribbons need to be disconnected. The connectors are different from the ones in previous stages. They're called zif connectors and the black part moves up and down/open and closed on a hinge. The connectors will be closed when you remove the blue tape. They are shown open in the picture below so you can see which way they move.

LG Chocolate BL20 disassembly stage 10

  • Pull the large orange ribbon away from the back of the screen, as shown below. Next heat the back of the screen with a hot air gun or hair dryer for around 20 seconds. Then pull the housing in the direction shown by the arrows and the screen should raise slightly, allowing you to lift it out.
